Playa (as the locals say) is a commercialised town with an American style, accommodating for it’s many tourists. For the fashion minded and art inclined, you can find some beautiful pieces distinctive to this part of the world. Our word of advice, give Calle 38 beach a miss.

If it’s the nightlife you’re after hit La Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue).
Cenotes – take your pick of these natural swimming holes or just visit Chaak Tun, and we promise you will be amazed.
Eat
La Cueva del Chango – if you’re going to eat anywhere in Playa, make this your destination.
Piola – if La Cueva del Changa is closed, head across the road. It’s not Mexican, but the ingredients are fresh, it’s popular – and the pizza and salads are enjoyable.
Ah Cacao Chocolate Café – where you can hit the spot for your Mexican chocolate fix. The ‘Chocolate Maya’ is a must for the chocolate lovers.
Stay
Hotel La Semilla – a welcome contrast to the spangled city centre of Playa. It’s intimate, quiet and the perfect hideaway. You can expect to be served a cooked breakfast by the owner.
